VOIP for Business

What is VoIP?
VoIP refers to Voice over Internet Protocol, a technology that enables you to make voice calls using a broadband Internet connection instead of a regular (analog) telephone line.

How Does VoIP Work?

When you place a call, VoIP services transmit your voice as a digital signal that travels over the Internet.  Some VoIP services only allow you to call other people using the same service while others allow you to call any telephone number.  If you are calling a regular telephone number, the digital signal transmitted by the VoIP service will be converted to a normal telephone signal before it reaches the destination.

What Kind of Equipment Does VoIP Require?
In order to utilize a VoIP for business service, you must have a high-speed broadband Internet connection, whether it’s through DSL or a cable modem.  You must also have a computer, adaptor, or a specialized VoIP phone depending on the service.  While some VoIP services only work over your computer or required a special VoIP phone, others only require an adapter that allows you to use a regular telephone.

What are the Advantages of Using VoIP?
One of the main advantages for businesses of using VoIP is often it is far less expensive than regular phone service – companies that use VoIP can often avoid paying steep fees for both a broadband connection and a land line.  It can also offer features not available with a regular phone line, such as call conferencing, call forwarding, and much more.
